Josip Kaplan Girls’ Choir

Biography

The Josip Kaplan Youth Choir Girls’ Choir was founded in 2012 in Rijeka as part of an already established association. The choir brings together girls of high school age. Its repertoire consists of classical choral works, arrangements of popular and folk music, gospel, and more. Since its founding, the Girls’ Choir has performed on many occasions and won numerous top awards in competitions: the girls have earned 4 national silver medals, 6 international gold medals, and 2 international silver medals, as well as numerous special awards for artistic impression.
Together with the Kap Children’s Choir, they won 2 gold medals at the national competition in Zagreb in 2022 and 2024, and another gold medal in Đurđevac at the 21st Meeting of Small Vocal Ensembles in 2024, representing the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.

At the international competition Vox Lucensis in Lucca, Italy, in 2025, they won the Silver Plaque in the youth choir category. Also in 2025, representing the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, they won a Silver Plaque in the classical music category.
They have collaborated with the Ivan pl. Zajc Croatian National Theatre for many years and have performed in operas such as La Bohème, Carmen, The Queen of Spades, the musical Evita, the ballet The Nutcracker, the cantata Carmina Burana, and others. The artistic director of the choir is Doris Kovačić, the piano accompanist is Doris Knežević, and the assistant and vocal coach is Maja Šajatović.
